The Emerging Banana Software Named Open Source?

A very provocative perspective, by no doubt. The idea? It is all about a common practice that has been getting more and more popular in the hi-tech companies these days aˆ“ first they launch an informational system describing it as “an open source”. Later on, the whole (or let’s say, most of it) process of development and maintenance of the project is left to the clients (a.k.a. The Open Source society), who are in most cases driven by either enthusiasm or a lack of any other alternative. An exclusively intriguing observation of this phenomenon’s essence is given by a German specialist in the field, working for the IT magazine “Computer Woche”:
“The banana principle in the fruit trade is also valid in the software industry: unripe fruit is marketed and it gets edible right after it is bought by the client; not-finished-yet software products get marketed in the fastest possible way and their full ripening requires additional client updates…
What we see is the term “banana software” getting a brand new meaning (just a reminder: in the old-fashioned beliefs it is thought to be a constant obligation of the producer to update and maintain their soft) aˆ“ transferring to the clients the responsibility to develop the newly produced open software code. What if dealing with the code is far beyond their abilities, skills, knowledge? Well, if so, they have to figure out new solutions themselves. The software implementer has already given their share and is enjoying a responsibility slip. The company producer believe they have done enough aˆ“ providing their clients with a wonderful Open Source interface…”
A fairly succinct explanation of the processes, I would say. I do agree, the truthful opinion about any question is two-sided but still I couldn’t agree more with the quote above…Just a coincidence of personal opinions, I guess. However, I am waiting for your comments, opinions, feedback?
